  1. མཆོད་​ཁང་​།

    [lit. worship + house]

    Biblical: temple: 1) the Jewish temple building: ཡེ་​ཤུ་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​དུ་​ཕེབས། Jesus entered the temple (Mt. 21:12), དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​། the temple of God (Mt. 26:61), མཆོད་​ཁང་​ཡང་​མི་​གཙང་​བ་​བྱེད། desecrate the temple (Acts 24:6); 2) also used figuratively: ཁོང་​གིས་​སྐུ་​ལུས་​ཡིན་​པའི་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​ལ་​དམིགས་​ཏེ་​གསུངས་​པ་​ཡིན། the temple he had spoken of was his body (Jn. 2:21), ཁྱེད་​དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​ཡིན་​ཏེ། you yourselves are God's temple (1 Cor. 3:16), དམ་​པའི་​ཐུགས་​ཉིད་​ཀྱི་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​། a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19), དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​ནམ་​མཁའི་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​། God's heavenly temple (Rev. 11:19); 3) used as a modern term for church: ཨེལ་​ཤ་​སྐྲའི་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​། El Shaddai Church (DPD), ཕ་​རི་​སིའི་​འཕགས་​མའི་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​། the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris (SBC-1, 62).

    Buddhist: 1) a chapel, a place for worship: བྱམས་​ཆེན་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​། the Chamba Buddha Hall (MHP 7); 2) a memorial hall: མཆོད་​རྟེན་​དང་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​ཆེན་​མོ། the chorten and Grand Memorial Hall (MHP 7), ཀུན་​གཟིགས་​པན་​ཆེན་​སྐུ་​ཕྲེང་​བཅུ་​པ་​མཆོག་​གི་​སྐུ་​གདུང་​མཆོད་​རྟེན་​དང་​མཆོད་​ཁང་​། a Great Stupa and Memorial Hall for the Tenth Panchen Lama (MHP 7).

  2. གཙང་​ཁང་​།

    [lit. pure + house]

    Biblical: temple, holy place: གཙང་​ཁང་​དང་​མཆོད་​ཁྲིའི་​དཀྱིལ་​དུ། between the temple and the altar (Mt. 23:35), གཙོ་​བོ་​དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​གཙང་​ཁང་​དུ་​ཞུགས་​ཏེ། སྤོས་​བདུག་​པ་​ཁོ་​ལ་​བབས་​ནས། to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense (Lk. 1:9), གཙང་​ཁང་​གི་​ཡོལ་​བ་​ཁག་​གཉིས་​སུ་​རལ། the curtain of the temple was torn in two (Lk. 23:45).

  3. གཞལ་​ཡས་​ཁང་​།

    Biblical: temple in a figurative sense: ཁྱེད་​རྣམས་​དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​གཞལ་​ཡས་​ཁང་​ཡིན། you yourselves are God's temple (1 Cor. 3:16 SV), ཁྱེད་​རྣམས་​ཀྱི་​ལུས་​ནི་​དམ་​པའི་​ཐུགས་​ཉིད་​ཀྱི་​གཞལ་​ཡས་​ཁང་​ཡིན། your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19 SV).

    Buddhist: གཞལ་​ཡས་​ཁང་​། mansions, castles, or residences of the gods in Bst. mythology (TDC 2416).

  4. ལྷ་​ཁང་​།

    [lit. god + house]

    Biblical: pagan temple: ཡུ་​པི་​ཏེར་​གྱི་​ལྷ་​ཁང་​། the temple of Jupiter [Zeus] (Acts 14:13), མི་​ཡིས་​བཟོས་​པའི་​ལྷ་​ཁང་​། temples built by hands (Acts 17:24).

    Buddhist: ལྷ་​ཁང་​མང་​པོ་​བཞེངས། [they] built many temples (TRC 113), དཔལ་​གསམ་​ཡས་​སྤྲུལ་​པའི་​ལྷ་​ཁང་​། the Utse temple at Samye Monastery (DPD), རྩེ་​ཐང་​གཡུ་​ཡི་​ལྷ་​ཁང་​། Tsethang's Turquoise Temple (DPD).
