  1. རང་​དབང་​།

    [lit. own + power]

    Biblical: freedom, independence, liberty. The NT speaks of man's liberty from sin and of freedom from bondage to the Law as a means of salvation; both are God-centered concepts unknown in Bsm. མ་​ཤི་​ཀའི་​རང་​དབང་​། the freedom [we have in] Christ (Gal. 2:4), རང་​དབང་​དུ་​གནས་​པའི་​ཕྱིར་​མ་​ཤི་​ཀས་​ངེད་​ཐར་​བར་​མཛད་​པས། it is for freedom that Christ has set us free (Gal. 5:1), ཁྱེད་​རྣམས་​རང་​དབང་​ལ་​བོས། you were called to be free (Gal. 5:13), ཁྱེད་​ཚོ་​རང་​དབང་​ལྡན་​པར་​འཚོ། live as free men (1 Pet. 2:16).

    Secular: 1) freedom in general: མ་​བཤད་​བར་​དུ་​གཏམ་​ལ་​རང་​དབང་​ཐོབ། before having told [a secret] you have freedom (KPU 19); 2) political freedom or independence: གཞུག་​པའི་​རང་​དབང་​། political self determination, མི་​དམངས་​ཀྱི་​རང་​དབང་​། liberty (RRT 282), དམངས་​གཙོའི་​ཐོབ་​ཐང་​དང་​རང་​དབང་​འདྲ་​མཉམ་​བཅས་​བེད་​སྤྱོད་​བྱེད་​པ། implementing democratic rights and equal freedoms (RRT 282), རྒྱ་​གར་​རང་​དབང་​ཐོབ་​པའི་​ཉི་​མ། Indian Independence Day (DPD); 3) independently, autonomously: རང་​དབང་​རང་​ཐོབ་​ངང་​ནས། receiving innate empowerment by yourself (HTE 184).

  2. ཐར་​པ།

    [lit. save, deliver from]

    Biblical: freedom in the sense of escape, deliverance or being set free: སྣོད་​བཅུད་​ཀྱང་​མི་​རྟག་​པའི་​དབང་​ལས་​ཐར་​ཏེ། the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay (Rom. 8:21), གལ་​ཏེ་​ཐར་​ཐུབ་​པའི་​སྐབས་​ཡོད་​ན། if you can gain your freedom (1 Cor. 7:21), གཙོ་​བོའི་​ཐུགས་​ཉིད་​ཡོད་​སར་​ཐར་​པ་​ཡོད། where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Cor. 3:17), ཐར་​པའི་​བཀའ་​ཁྲིམས། the law of freedom (Jas. 2:12).

  3. སྒྲོལ།

    p. བསྒྲལ། [save, deliver from]

    Biblical: deliverance, rescue, freedom [from an oppressive situation]: བཙོན་​པར་​སྒྲོལ་​དང་​ལོང་​བར་​མིག freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind (Lk. 4:18), ཁྱེད་​རྣམས་​སྡིག་​པའི་​དབང་​ལས་​བསྒྲལ་​ནས། རྣམ་​པར་​དག་​པའི་​གཡོག་​པོ་​རུ་​གྱུར་​ཏོ། you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness (Rom. 6:18 SV).

  4. འབྲལ།

    p. བྲལ། [lit. separated from; used in compounds to express the idea "free from"]

    Biblical: 1) སེམས་​འཁྲལ་​དང་​འབྲལ་​བ། free from worry ང་​ནི་​ཁྱོད་​རྣམས་​སེམས་​འཁྲལ་​དང་​འབྲལ་​བར་​གནས་​པར་​འདོད། I would like you to be free from concern (1 Cor. 7:32 SV); 2) བཀའ་​ཁྲིམས་​དང་​བྲལ། free from God's law ང་​རང་​དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​བཀའ་​ཁྲིམས་​དང་​མི་​བྲལ་​ཞིང་​མ་​ཤི་​ཀའི་​བཀའ་​ཁྲིམས་​ལ་​བརྟེན། I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law (1 Cor. 9:21 SV); 3) བརྣབ་​སེམས་​དང་​བྲལ་​བ། free from the love of money བརྣབ་​སེམས་​དང་​བྲལ་​བར་​གྱུར་​ཅིག keep your lives free from the love of money (Heb. 13:5 SV).

    Buddhist: 1) ཐབ་​བྲལ། the place free of fighting; a god realm (KBT 117), སྐྱོན་​དང་​བྲལ་​བ། free of faults, faultless (TRC 199), བྱིང་​རྒོད་​དང་​བྲལ། free of mental distractions [in meditation] (TRC 202), སྡུག་​བསྔལ་​ལས་​འབྲལ། free of suffering (TRC 332), སྙིང་​རྗེ་​བྲལ་​བ། heartless, cruel, inhuman (DLP 7); 2) outside, away from: ལྷ་​ས་​དང་​བྲལ། outside Lhasa (SLR 10).

  5. སྐྱབས་​གནང་​།

    [lit. give salvation]

    Biblical: དགྲ་​བོའི་​ལག་​ནས་​ང་​ལ་​སྐྱབས་​གནང་​། who sets me free from my enemies (2 Sam. 22:49 NTV).
