  1. བཟོད་​པ།

    [hon. ཐུགས་​བཟོད།]

    Biblical: ordinary term for patience or forbearance in suffering: དད་​པ་​དང་​བཟོད་​པ། faith and patience (Heb. 6:12), བྱམས་​སེམས་​ལ་​བཟོད་​པ་​དང་​སྙིང་​རྗེ་​ཡོད། love is patient and kind (1 Cor. 13:4), བཟོད་​པའི་​གོ་​ཆ་​གྱོན། clothe yourselves with patience (Col. 3:12), ཐུགས་​བཟོད་​ཚད་​མེད། [Christ's] unlimited patience (1 Tim. 1:16).

    Buddhist: Patience is said to be of three types: 1) གནོད་​པ་​ལ་​ཇི་​མི་​སྙམ་​པའི་​བཟོད་​པ། not retaliating when harmed; 2) སྡུག་​བསྔལ་​དང་​ལེན་​གྱི་​བཟོད་​པ། enduring sufferings; longsuffering; 3) ཆོས་​ལ་​ངེས་​ཤེས་​ཀྱི་​བཟོད་​པ། patience of enduring injury because of one's religious training (TRI 243), བཟོད་​པའི་​ཕ་​རོལ་​ཏུ་​ཕྱིན་​པ། the perfection of patience, one of the ten perfections (KBT 65), སྡུག་​བསྔལ་​ལ་​ཆོས་​ཤེས་​པའི་​བཟོད་​པ། forbearance with the origin of the reality of suffering (KBT 98), སྡུག་​བསྔལ་​བཟོད་​གླགས་​མེད་​པ། unbearable misery (TRC 270).

    Proverbs: དམའ་​ས་​བཟུང་​ནས་​གང་​ཅིར་​བཟོད་​པ་​སྒོམས། དོན་​གྱི་​རྡོ་​ཁ་​རང་​གི་​སྙིང་​དུ་​ཞོག be humble and patient in all things, but keep your purpose in mind (KPU 22).

  2. ངང་​རིང་​བ།

    Biblical: long suffering, patience: གཙང་​མ་​དང་​། ཤེས་​རབ་​དང་​། ངང་​རིང་​བ། purity, understanding, and patience (2 Cor. 6:6), ངང་​རིང་​བ་​དང་​བསླབ་​བྱའི་​སྒོ་​ནས། with great patience and careful instruction (2 Tim. 4:2).

    Buddhist: a disposition which is tranquil or tolerant (KTM), ཁོ་​ལ་​ནོར་​འཁྲུལ་​བྱུང་​དུས་​ངས་​ངང་​རིང་​གིས་​རོགས་​རམ་​བྱས་​པ་​ཡིན། when he had erred much, I helped him patiently (KTM).

  3. ཐུགས་​སྣ་​རིང་​བ།

    [hon.]

    Biblical: patience in the face of provocation: ཁོང་​གི་​ཐུགས་​རྗེ་​དང་​། ཐུགས་​བཟོད་​དང་​། ཐུགས་​སྣ་​རིང་​བ། [God's] kindness, tolerance and patience (Rom. 2:4).

    Buddhist: སྣ་​རིང་​བ། is the same as ངང་​རྒྱུད་​རིང་​པོ། or patient (TDC 1586).

    Cognates: སྣ་​རིང་​མོ་​མཛད། to be patient: དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​ཐུགས་​སྣ་​རིང་​མོ་​མཛད། God waited patiently (1 Pet. 3:20), ཁྱེད་​ཚོའི་​དོན་​དུ་​ཐུགས་​སྣ་​རིང་​བར་​མཛད་​དོ། [God] is patient with you (2 Pet. 3:9).
